Tres Ocho, the No. 888, is the slender member of the Añejo family: nearly seven inches of Cognac-barrel-aged broadleaf drawn to a fine point at the head. It suits the smoker who wants the Añejo character in a more elegant frame, and it is one of the Arturo Fuente cigars in Dubai that we set aside at our Downtown Dubai cigar house for exactly that reason.
Profile: Medium to full strength
Flavour Notes: Wood, leather, vanilla, black pepper and honey.
How It Smokes: The first third opens on wood and supple leather, the slim ring putting the maduro wrapper right at the front of the palate. Through the middle, vanilla and honey surface around a thread of black pepper, a sweet and spiced balance that suits the length. The final third keeps the pepper present while the wood deepens, finishing on leather. With a narrow gauge the flavour moves quickly with pace, so in our reading a slow, even draw serves it well.
Blend Details: The 888 uses the Añejo recipe: an aged Connecticut broadleaf maduro wrapper rested in Cognac barrels, wrapped around Dominican binder and filler, made by Arturo Fuente in the Dominican Republic and packed 24 to a box.
