Ask a Fuente loyalist for the definitive Don Carlos and many will name the No. 2. This torpedo tapers from a 55 ring to a 44 head across nearly six inches, a classic shape for a blend that honours Carlos Fuente Sr. It has appeared in Cigar Aficionado's Top 25 more than once, and it is one of the Arturo Fuente cigars in Dubai we keep ready at our Downtown Dubai cigar house.
Profile: Medium to full strength
Flavour Notes: Caramel, cocoa powder and fresh tobacco.
How It Smokes: The first third opens on caramel, the Cameroon leaf adding a light, dry spice at the edges. Through the middle, cocoa powder builds beneath it and the texture turns soft and fine. Our reading of the last third is the most tobacco-forward: fresh leaf and cocoa together, with the caramel now in the background. The tapered head concentrates the smoke, and the slow burn keeps the medium to full profile steady to the end.
Blend Details: Carlos Fuente Sr. blended Don Carlos from rare, vintage tobaccos, and the No. 2 carries that recipe: an African Cameroon wrapper, Dominican binder and Dominican filler, rolled at Tabacalera A. Fuente in the Dominican Republic.
