The Hemingway line exists because the Fuentes refused to let the perfecto disappear. Carlito Fuente remembered his grandfather's shaped cigars, and in the early 1980s the family revived them in the Dominican Republic, reportedly working from old moulds found in a Florida warehouse. The Classic is the long, elegant expression of that revival, seven inches of curve, and a cornerstone of the premium cigars in Dubai at our Downtown Dubai cigar house.
Profile: Medium to full strength
Flavour Notes: Orange peel, cedar and coffee.
How It Smokes: The closed perfecto foot lights into a concentrated first few puffs before the cigar opens up. The first third settles on cedar with a bright twist of orange peel from the thin, toothy Cameroon wrapper. Through the middle, coffee builds underneath and the smoke takes on more weight. In our reading the final third is the richest, cedar and coffee in balance with the citrus still faintly present. The long frame and 46 ring give a slow, steady burn.
Blend Details: A Cameroon wrapper over Dominican binder and filler, made by Arturo Fuente in the Dominican Republic. Cigar Aficionado ranked the Classic seventh in its Top 25 of 2009, and it remains part of the full Hemingway range of eight shapes.
