Carlos Fuente Jr. built the Magnum R line around wrapper leaf he had been ageing for years, and named each size after its ring. The Vitola 52 is the robusto of the family: five inches, flat capped and generous in the hand. It is one of the Arturo Fuente cigars in Dubai we keep for guests who prefer a short, full format.

Flavour Notes: Oak, coffee, leather and almond, with a sweet mocha finish, per Cigar Aficionado.
How It Smokes: The flat cap and rich, even complexion set the tone. In our reading the first third leads with oak and a steady coffee note. Through the middle leather and almond fill out the smoke, and the burn stays even. The finish closes on a sweet mocha note, which the maker's own description of a distinctive sweet finish anticipates. At five inches it is a shorter session that still carries the line's depth.
Blend Details: Created by Carlos Fuente Jr. at Tabacalera A. Fuente in the Dominican Republic and first released in December 2009. The wrapper comes from the lower primings of Ecuadorian plants and was aged for nearly a decade; Cigar Aficionado reports it was Sumatra seed leaf held back from the Fuente Sun Grown line. Each vitola is named for its ring gauge, so the 52 is simply a 52 ring.

It uses an Ecuadorian Rosado Sungrown wrapper from the lower primings of the plant, aged for nearly a decade before rolling. Binder and filler are Dominican.
It is made by Tabacalera A. Fuente in the Dominican Republic.
Cigar Aficionado rates it medium to full in strength. It carries more weight than most of the Fuente range.
