At six and a quarter inches, the Vitola 54 gives the aged Rosado Sungrown wrapper six and a quarter inches to develop. It earned a place in Cigar Aficionado's Top 25 of 2011, and at our Downtown Dubai cigar house it is the Magnum R we suggest for an unhurried hour among premium cigars in Dubai.
Profile: Medium, as rated by Cigar Aficionado.
Flavour Notes: Sweet wood, caramel, nuts and spice, earth and a touch of leather, an oaky and sweet finish, per Cigar Aficionado.
How It Smokes: The maker describes a creamier, smoother smoke with elegant undertones, and our reading follows that line. The first third is sweet and woody, with caramel close behind. In the middle nuts and a measured spice come forward, with earth and a light touch of leather underneath. The finish turns oaky and sweet. Cigar Aficionado's tasters noted an even burn, which suits a toro of this length.
Blend Details: Created by Carlos Fuente Jr. at Tabacalera A. Fuente in the Dominican Republic and first released in December 2009. The wrapper comes from the lower primings of Ecuadorian plants and was aged for nearly a decade; Cigar Aficionado reports it was Sumatra seed leaf held back from the Fuente Sun Grown line. Each vitola is named for its ring gauge, so the 54 is simply a 54 ring.
