Boniface is the robusto gordo of Casdagli's Cypher 3311 line, a series that honours Jeremy Casdagli's grandfather, a prisoner of war who stitched coded messages of defiance into his embroidery. The name recalls the fictional master spy British intelligence invented to cover its code-breaking. At 5 by 54 it is the shortest of the line, and our Downtown Dubai cigar house presents it in the varnished slide-top box of 20 among its premium cigars in Dubai.
Profile: Medium strength, medium to full body (as published by Casdagli).
Flavour Notes: Cream, almonds, marzipan, baking spices and pepper (Casdagli).
How It Smokes: Our reading of the Boniface opens creamy, with almond rising quickly over the Ecuadorian wrapper. The broad 54 ring carries the cream into the middle, where marzipan brings a soft sweetness. In the final third baking spices take shape and a light pepper sharpens the finish. The short length keeps the flavours close together, so each stage arrives without delay.
Blend Details: Casdagli blends the Cypher 3311 line at the IGM Cigars boutique factory in San José, Costa Rica, where it was launched in 2022. The number 3311 was Major A.T. Casdagli's prisoner number, and the vitola names recall the secret war of codes. Each box shows its year of production, and Casdagli donates a share of the proceeds from every Cypher 3311 cigar to the Red Cross.
