Lorenz takes its name from the German cypher machine whose broken messages helped the Allies, a secret kept until 2002. In Casdagli's Cypher 3311 line it is the grand Diademas, 9.2 inches long at 58 ring, and each cigar rests in its own blue varnished coffin inside a slide-top box of eight. It is a cigar for a long evening, and one of the most ceremonial premium cigars in Dubai at our boutique.
Profile: Medium strength, medium body (as published by Casdagli).
Flavour Notes: Honey, almond and dark chocolate (Casdagli).
How It Smokes: The first third of the Lorenz is gentle and aromatic, with honey and almond out front. As the long Diademas burns into the middle, the Colorado wrapper brings dark chocolate forward and gives the sweetness more depth. Over the length of the cigar the balance shifts slowly between honey, nut and chocolate, which is the quiet charm of this format. It is a smoke to take slowly from first light to the band.
Blend Details: Lorenz is blended for Casdagli at the IGM Cigars boutique factory in San José, Costa Rica, as part of the Cypher 3311 line launched in 2022. Casdagli keeps its binder and filler secret, saying only that they aim for a Cuban-style character. Each box shows its year of production, and a share of the proceeds from every Cypher 3311 cigar goes to the Red Cross.
