Named for the brand's half century, the Medio Siglo is a 102 mm petit robusto at 52 ring from Cohiba's Línea 1492, the line created in 1992 for the fifth centenary of Columbus's arrival in Cuba. We hold it in slide-lid boxes of 25 at our Downtown Dubai cigar house, a compact way into cuban cigars in Dubai.
Profile: Medium (Habanos rating: Medium)
Flavour Notes: Wood, spice, nut, cocoa powder and minerals (Cigar Aficionado, October 2018); black pepper, leather and cereal grain (halfwheel).
How It Smokes: The first third is woody and peppery, black pepper over dry wood with a touch of leather. In the middle, a cereal grain note appears and the pepper grows, while nut joins the wood. The final third brings cocoa powder and a mineral finish as the flavours draw together. A thick ring in a short length keeps the draw full and the smoke focused, suited to a shorter session.
Blend Details: Cohiba is rolled by hand at the El Laguito factory in Havana, with leaves drawn from vegas in San Juan y Martínez and San Luis in Vuelta Abajo, Pinar del Río. It is the only Habanos brand in which the seco and ligero leaves go through an additional fermentation. Línea 1492 carries a medium strength, lighter than the Línea Clásica.
