Siglo I opens Cohiba's Línea 1492, a 102 mm Perla at 40 ring. It is the shortest way into the Siglo series that we hold at our boutique, and a quiet favourite among cuban cigars in Dubai for a half hour on the terrace.
Profile: Medium (Habanos rating: Medium)
Flavour Notes: Oak, hazelnut, honey and cured tobacco in a rich, creamy smoke, as published by Cigar Aficionado (October 2024).
How It Smokes: The first third opens rich and creamy, with oak and hazelnut out in front. In the middle, a honey-like sweetness rounds the wood and softens the edges. The final third leans on cured tobacco, a deeper and more savoury close that still keeps the creamy texture. Habanos rates the line medium, so the flavour arrives with detail rather than weight, and the narrow ring keeps it concentrated from the first draw to the last.
Blend Details: Cohiba is rolled by hand at the El Laguito factory in Havana, with leaves drawn from vegas in San Juan y Martínez and San Luis in Vuelta Abajo, Pinar del Río. It is the only Habanos brand in which the seco and ligero leaves go through an additional fermentation. Línea 1492, launched in 1992 for the fifth centenary of Columbus's arrival in Cuba, carries a medium strength.
