The 58 ring keeps the first third cool, and the spice arrives later than in the slimmer sizes, settling in rather than leading. By the middle, earth takes the centre with a soft hint of black coffee behind it. The close is round and steady, the sweetness of the Sumatra leaf still present in the last inch.

Blend Details

Allegiance is the Casa Carrillo line produced in partnership with Oliva Cigar Co. in Nicaragua. An eighth-priming Sumatra wrapper from Quevedo, Ecuador, covers a Nicaraguan binder and Nicaraguan filler. In the Chaperone the larger ring shifts the balance a little toward the filler, so the earthy, rounded side of the blend comes forward.
