The E.P. Carrillo Essence Honduras Robusto is the classic-sized entry to the third Essence blend, made in Honduras with the Plasencia family. It is one of the E.P. Carrillo cigars in Dubai we suggest for a first look at the Honduran OSA wrapper: a 5 x 50, medium in body and balanced throughout.
Profile: Medium
Flavour Notes: Dark chocolate, espresso, oak, earth and pepper.
Ours opens with dark chocolate and a dry, earthy base, the Robusto ring putting the wrapper forward from the first draw. Espresso joins in the middle third, firmer and more roasted than in the larger sizes. Oak frames it, and the smoke stays balanced and medium in weight. A touch of pepper comes in near the end and gives the finish a clean lift. A compact cigar that shows the whole blend in a shorter sitting.
The Essence Series gives each blend a different wrapper to showcase. Essence Honduras is the third, and the first made away from Casa Carrillo: it is produced at the Plasencia family's Tabacos de Oriente factory in Honduras, in collaboration with the Plasencias. A Honduran OSA wrapper from Olancho San Agustín covers a Honduran binder and a filler of Honduran and Nicaraguan tobaccos. The Robusto keeps that wrapper close to the palate.
