The E.P. Carrillo Essence Sumatra Gordo is the 6 x 60 of the first Essence blend, the one built to put an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper at the centre. Among the Dominican cigars in our Downtown Dubai humidor, it offers a medium body, a broad ring and a long, cool draw, made at Casa Carrillo.
Profile: Medium
Flavour Notes: Almond, coffee, white pepper and a touch of sweetness.
Ours opens on toasted almond, soft and nutty, with the Sumatra leaf giving a faint sweetness right away. The wide ring keeps the smoke cool and full through the first third. Coffee comes forward in the middle, smooth rather than bitter, and the double binder gives the blend a steady, rounded body. White pepper appears toward the finish, light and clean, with the sweetness holding beneath it. A balanced Gordo for a slow, easy hour.
Essence Sumatra is the blend that began the Essence Series, a line in which each cigar is designed around its wrapper. Here an Ecuadorian Sumatra leaf sits over a double binder of Nicaraguan and Honduran tobacco and a filler of Nicaraguan and Dominican leaf, handcrafted at Casa Carrillo in the Dominican Republic. In the Gordo, the large ring gives the wrapper a broad, cool smoke. Explore the house in our E.P. Carrillo collection.
