Flavour Notes: Cocoa, dark chocolate, espresso, almond, toasted coconut and earth.
Ours opens tight and focused through the tapered head, with espresso and cocoa arriving first and a sweetness from the Maduro leaf. As the cone burns back and the smoke widens, almond and a faint toasted coconut join in, and the first third settles into a rich, even draw. The middle is the heart of it: dark chocolate, coffee, a little earth, all concentrated by the shape. The final third deepens further and the finish stays long. We like it for an evening that allows a full hour or more.
La Historia is Ernesto Perez-Carrillo's family line, rolled at Tabacalera La Alianza in the Dominican Republic. A Mexican San Andrés Maduro wrapper is laid over an Ecuadorian Sumatra binder and a filler of Nicaraguan and Dominican tobacco. The line was named Cigar Aficionado's #2 Cigar of the Year in 2014.
