The E.P. Carrillo Maduro Robusto belongs to the house's Essence Series, where each blend is built around a single wrapper. Here it is dark San Andrés Maduro over Honduran and Nicaraguan tobacco, a medium-bodied Robusto and an easy way into E.P. Carrillo cigars in Dubai.
Profile: Medium
Flavour Notes: Dark chocolate, espresso, baking spice, roasted earth and cedar.
Ours opens with dark chocolate and a soft espresso note, smooth rather than heavy. On the first third a little baking spice warms the palate and cedar lines the finish. The Robusto size keeps the smoke focused, and through the middle a roasted earthiness settles beneath the cocoa. The final third brings the spice forward again, never sharp. It is a balanced, steady cigar that fits an afternoon coffee or a shorter evening, and it shows the Maduro wrapper clearly without overwhelming it.
The Essence Series from E.P. Carrillo gives each blend its own wrapper. This Maduro edition is rolled at Casa Carrillo in the Dominican Republic, with a Mexican San Andrés Maduro wrapper over a Honduran binder and Nicaraguan filler, tuned for a medium, rounded body.
