The Fabuloso Dark Ruby sits at the summit of El Septimo's Zaya Collection, a 6 1/4 x 70 Gordo presented in a ruby and gold box. Made for a slow session of up to three hours, it is, among luxury cigars in Dubai, an occasion cigar in every sense: medium to full, Maduro wrapped and opulent.
Profile: Medium to Full
Flavour Notes: Roasted almonds, honey, white chocolate, vanilla, spice, oatmeal, cherry, nougat and sherry, deepening into espresso, toasted oak, dark cocoa, aged leather and molasses.
Ours opens on roasted almonds and honey, with white chocolate and vanilla arriving early. The first hour is sweet and layered: a touch of spice, oatmeal, cherry, nougat and a sherry note that recalls a fortified wine. The 70 ring keeps the draw even and the smoke generous. Through the second hour the cigar deepens into espresso and toasted oak, and dark cocoa takes over. The final stretch brings aged leather and molasses, a long, dark finish to a long evening.
The Dark Ruby is rolled by hand in Costa Rica from El Septimo's proprietary long-aged tobacco, under a Maduro wrapper; the binder and filler are not published. Its slow, opulent burn is the point: this is a cigar for an unhurried evening with time set aside for it. See more from the Zaya Collection in our El Septimo collection.
