OpusX began with a bet against conventional wisdom: that the Dominican Republic could grow a world-class wrapper. Carlito Fuente planted Cuban seed at Chateau de la Fuente in the early 1990s, and in 1995 the first Dominican puro was born. The Belicoso XXX is its compact expression, under five inches with a tapered head, and one of the most collected premium cigars in Dubai we hold at our Downtown Dubai cigar house.
Profile: Full strength
Flavour Notes: Red pepper, cinnamon, ginger and red wine.
How It Smokes: The first third opens on red pepper with a warm cinnamon sweetness behind it, the oily OpusX wrapper giving the smoke real grip. Through the middle, ginger sharpens the spice and a dark, red wine fruit appears. In our reading the final third is the most intense, pepper and ginger together with the wine note holding the sweetness. The short belicoso head focuses everything, so this is a full cigar delivered in a small frame.
Blend Details: An all-Dominican puro: wrapper grown from Cuban seed at the family's Chateau de la Fuente farm in Bonao, with Dominican binder and filler. OpusX is rolled in its own room at the Fuente factory and rests in closed cabinets for at least a year before release.
