Ours smells of fresh-roasted coffee on the wrapper before it is lit, and the first draws carry that roast straight onto the palate, smooth and rounded. The sweetened cap makes the coffee feel creamy rather than bitter. Through the middle the Habano filler shows a little more tobacco character underneath, and the infusion settles into a steady background. The 52 ring keeps the draw open and the burn easy. It finishes rich and medium, like the last sip of a good cup.
Gurkha's flavoured cigars were first released about a decade ago in three profiles: Café Tabac with coffee, Red Head with cherry and White Rascal with vanilla. Gurkha lists the family's blend as an Ecuador Connecticut wrapper, Nicaraguan binder and Habano filler, made in the Dominican Republic at medium strength, in 5 x 52 and 4 x 38.
