The Gurkha Cellar Reserve Platinum Edition 12 Year Kraken XO is the Nicaraguan chapter of Gurkha's Cellar Reserve family, built on binder and filler aged for up to twelve years. Under a dark Ecuadorian Oscuro wrapper, this one is a 6 x 60 gordo-format cigar for a long, cool smoke, and a considered choice in our Downtown Dubai humidor for anyone who values aged tobacco.
Profile: Medium
Gurkha describes the Platinum Edition as rich and complex rather than naming individual notes, and that is how ours reads. The Oscuro wrapper gives a dark, dense first impression, and the long-aged Nicaraguan tobacco from Condega, Estelí and Jalapa rounds it off so the body stays medium rather than heavy. Across the middle the layers come forward slowly, one after another, and the generous ring keeps the pace easy. It is a cigar to sit with, not to rush.
An Ecuadorian Oscuro wrapper encases a Nicaraguan binder and Nicaraguan filler aged for up to twelve years, drawn from the Condega, Estelí and Jalapa growing regions. It is made in Nicaragua, and Gurkha rates the strength as medium.
