The Gurkha Pure Evil XO is the big-ring Pure Evil, a 6 x 60 Gordo with a Habano wrapper and an all-Nicaraguan core. Among the full-strength Gurkha cigars in Dubai, it is the version that trades a little intensity for volume.
Profile: Full strength, medium to full body
Flavour Notes: Spice on the retrohale, earth and nuttiness, with a long, clean finish.
Ours draws thick and cool, and the 60 ring spreads the spice out so the first third reads warmer than it does in the Robusto. Earth builds slowly beneath it. Through the middle the nuttiness has the most room of any size, and the smoke feels broad rather than sharp. Strength still gathers in the final third, though more patiently, and the finish stays long and clean. The XO suits a long evening and a slow hand.
The XO is the Pure Evil blend in a 6 x 60 format: Habano wrapper, Nicaraguan binder and Nicaraguan filler, made in Nicaragua. The wide ring cools the draw and gives the blend a rounder delivery.
