The Gurkha Year of the Dragon by Ram Rodriguez is one of three Year of the Dragon cigars, each made by a different house. This one comes from Ram Rodriguez of Tabacalera El Artista in the Dominican Republic, a 6 3/4 x 52 Figurado with a proprietary blend and one of the collectable Gurkha cigars in Dubai.
Profile: Medium
Ours begins at the tapered foot, so the first few draws are small and concentrated before the cigar opens to its full 52 ring. That shape gives the opening a gradual build that a parejo cannot match. By the middle the draw is generous and the medium body is fully present, steady rather than forceful. The burn follows the curve of the figurado with little correction. It is a cigar for collectors who enjoy the ritual as much as the smoke.
For the Year of the Dragon, Gurkha partnered with three makers, each creating its own blend. Ram Rodriguez, a third-generation tobacconist and Vice President of Tabacalera El Artista, made this Figurado in the Dominican Republic. Gurkha keeps its leaves proprietary and rates it medium.
