The Epicure No. 3 brought a pointed head to Hoyo de Monterrey's Epicure line in 2023: a 125 mm petit belicoso at 54 ring, rolled in the Originales vitola. We keep it in slide-lid boxes of 10 at our boutique for smokers of premium cigars in Dubai who like Hoyo's softness in a modern format.
Profile: Mild (Habanos rating: Light)
Flavour Notes: Earth, bread, cedar, toast, cream, coffee, saltine cracker, mineral and black and white pepper, then leather, as published by halfwheel.
How It Smokes: The first third opens earthy, with bread, cedar and toast over a creamy base and a hint of bitter coffee. In the middle, a saltine cracker note and mineral salinity appear, with wood and pepper adding structure. The final third turns earthier still, with leather and more black pepper on the finish. The tapered head concentrates the smoke, and the 54 ring keeps it full despite the brand's light rating.
Blend Details: Hoyo de Monterrey takes its name from the plantation in San Juan y Martínez, in the heart of Vuelta Abajo, whose gate still reads 'Hoyo de Monterrey. José Gener. 1860'. Every vitola is totally handmade with long filler from Vuelta Abajo leaves, and Habanos rates the brand light: delicate, aromatic and lower in strength. The Epicure line, with its own presentation, also includes Epicure No. 1, No. 2 and Especial.
