Souvenir de Luxe belongs to Habanos' Línea Retro, presented in a tin of five whose design recalls the series' 1970s packaging. Inside is a 129 mm petit corona at 42 ring, and at our boutique it is a nostalgic, giftable piece among the cuban cigars in Dubai.
Profile: Mild (Habanos rating: Light)
Flavour Notes: Hazelnut, sourdough, wood and cream, as published by Cigars Lover.
How It Smokes: The first third opens on hazelnut and sourdough, with wood and cream shaping a soft, bready profile. Through the middle the smoke grows creamier while the same notes hold steady. The final third changes little in flavour, but the strength edges up from medium-light to a solid medium, giving the close more presence. The classic petit corona proportion keeps the draw easy and the smoke to a comfortable length.
Blend Details: Hoyo de Monterrey takes its name from the plantation in San Juan y Martínez, in the heart of Vuelta Abajo, whose gate still reads 'Hoyo de Monterrey. José Gener. 1860'. Every vitola is totally handmade with long filler from Vuelta Abajo leaves, and Habanos rates the brand light: delicate, aromatic and lower in strength. The Línea Retro revives historic presentations in metal tins.
