The La Aurora Fernando León Corona Gorda belongs to La Aurora's Family Reserve, a blend first made for Fernando León and his circle and later named among Cigar Aficionado's Top 25 Cigars of 2013. In our Downtown Dubai humidor it is the La Aurora we suggest to anyone who likes sweetness and spice in the same cigar.
Profile: Medium to Full
Flavour Notes: Spice, cedar, leather and wood, with sweet honey on the aroma.
Ours opens on cedar and a dry, peppery spice, with the oily Corojo leaf giving a faint sweetness on the lips. By the middle, leather and dark wood settle in underneath, and honey drifts through the room more than across the palate. The Corona Gorda is the elegant middle ground, slim enough to keep the flavours precise and long enough to let them change. The last third grows firmer and woodier without losing that honeyed edge.
Part of La Aurora's Family Reserve, the Fernando León sets an Ecuadorian Corojo wrapper over a Dominican binder, with Dominican and Peruvian tobacco in the filler. It is rolled by hand in the Dominican Republic and boxed in 20s.
