Topes first appeared as a Trinidad Edición Limitada in 2016 and was so well received that it joined the regular range in 2019. At 56 ring and 125 mm it is the widest Trinidad in the core portfolio, and the first to carry that ring gauge in the brand. It is a plump, pigtailed cigar that our boutique offers in the box of 12 among its cuban cigars in Dubai.
Profile: Medium (Habanos brand strength).
Flavour Notes: Earthy and spicy, with macadamia nut, vanilla and toasted almond (Cigar Aficionado, 93 points).
How It Smokes: Our reading of the Topes begins earthy and spicy, the wide ring giving the smoke a full, round texture. Through the middle, macadamia nut comes forward and is soon joined by vanilla. The final third adds toasted almond and brings the sweetness and spice into balance. The draw can be a little firm, yet the cigar stays composed and elegant throughout.
Blend Details: Topes was released first as an Edición Limitada in 2016, then added to the permanent Trinidad portfolio in 2019, bringing the 56 ring to the brand for the first time. It is made in Pinar del Río, totally by hand with long filler from Vuelta Abajo.
